A brand new emergency department at Carmarthen Hospital required a new approach to artworks in public areas. They needed beautiful images but also artworks that would be robust enough to stand up to regular deep cleaning, the occasional bit of Friday night trouble, and any attempted thefts. Our front lit PhotoGlassWorks fitted the bill perfectly. Using our own design of ArtBrackets, even large pieces of glass (in this case 1200mm x 1200mm, 10mm thick) are held on the wall very securely, but, more importantly, the beauty of the images transformed the spaces. We provided appropriate pieces for the body viewing room and relatives rooms - both requiring great sensitivity - and pieces for children's treatment rooms using fun images of animals and underwater scenes. The children's playroom used our PhotoWindow product to great effect to give some privacy to adults talking outside whilst still being able to see their children in the playroom.

In Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest we installed a series of PhotoPanel artworks in the main reception, giving it a more welcoming feel for visitors, then supplied artworks for a number of newly refurbished wards. The reception we received from both patients and staff was outstanding - a genuinely transformative experience for some, especially on the cancer ward.

Our aspirations were to use art to create a calm and beautiful environment for patients and staff in a workplace at the front line of many emotional experiences. We had complex infection control and safety requirements but together with Richard’s patience and unique ability to connect with our therapeutic idea, he has ensured the delivery of a project far exceeding our expections. Thank you Richard and team for your wonderful images that have created a very different Emergency Unit.
