The IET conference centre in Savoy Place is a prestigious venue in the heart of London. This project required our full service: consultancy about products, locations, sizes; research and bespoke photography of scientific, engineering and technological milestones all over Britain; manufacture and installation of completed artworks including full project management.
We photographed the location of the first undersea telegraph cable in Cornwall; perfectly preserved Morris Minor cars in Knebworth; tesla coils in West Sussex and radar components in Norfolk, amongst many other projects. Some bespoke photography of London - including from and of the venue - was involved. We also photographed a full wall of the IET's science library and reproduced it at full size on PhotoWall wallpaper. This required making a custom camera stand and shooting 180 images 2 feet away from the books because they were on a narrow mezzanine floor. All the files had to be hand-stitched to create the final, super high resolution image which was printed at 13m x 3m.
All the artworks were installed with engraved brass plaques describing the scientific breakthrough the image described.
Savoy Place is the London Headquarters of the Institution of Engineering and Technology. We commissioned Blue Pearl Photographic to enhance the interiors for our conference clients, for our members and to help illustrate something of the illustrious history of the IET. With the daunting task of photographing the whole history of science and industry, Richard and Alison managed to find many key inventions and locations across Britain, photographing them beautifully and producing them on stunning, large, glass artworks. We were very pleased with the results.
