Situated at Salford Royal Hospital, this brand new state-of-the-art trauma unit is one of only two in the whole of Europe. With a helipad on the roof, patients can be taken from the helicopter and be in surgery in just 90 seconds. It is equipped with a RAPTOR theatre - which has a CT scanner in the large theatre that can accommodate up to 15 surgeons and other staff. This will likely save thousands of lives over the years as all critical facilities are in one place.
We were honoured to be asked to install artworks throughout the building, including, crucially, in patient bedrooms, where our soft nature images can be instrumental in helping patients heal from what is likely to be one of the most difficult times of their lives.
Similarly, we were able to put some uplifting nature images into the on-call surgeon's bedrooms, family rooms, and the body-viewing room - all areas of potentially high stress where a little calm goes a long way.
Our PhotoGlassWorks work brilliantly in clinical contexts and are a big upgrade from walls that are either cold, clinical and bare, or festooned with clinical notices that no-one reads. PhotoGlasWorks are deep cleanable, very robust, and have a very long lifespan (50+ years). Combined with our beautiful nature and local images, they uplift patients, staff and visitors and make the building far more welcoming and human.
